Frequently Asked Questions

The Pyramid Resource Group

What’s the difference between consulting and coaching?
Consultants come in and recommend solutions. A coach works as a partner to achieve goals over time by identifying and eliminating the barriers that get in the way of the successful achievement of those goals. A coach believes the client has the answers and works with the client to uncover them. We offer customized executive coaching for mid-level to senior executives. Our individual coaching is typically conducted in support of an overall corporate initiative such as leadership development, management transition, top talent identification, merger consolidation, or reorganization.

How can you work in an organization if you have no experience in that industry?
Our coaches have extensive business backgrounds and find that the types of issues that keep executives up at night are similar, no matter what the industry. Since coaches believe that their clients know what is right for themselves, our job is one of helping them access their own knowledge and wisdom, and make decisions that honor who they are.

What level of employee would most benefit from coaching?
There are a number of situations where Coaching can work within an organization, but here are some of the most common…
  1. CHIEF EXECUTIVES, DIRECTORS, AND OTHER LEADERSHIP – Often a lonely job with few people you can trust. A coach is a confidential resource with no agenda other than helping an executive achieve their goals.
  2. HIGH POTENTIAL EMPLOYEES - Often companies have management or leadership development programs for employees they want to fast track. Coaching can help them identify the skills necessary to advance in the organization and work with them to develop those skills.
  3. HIGHLY VALUED EMPLOYEES – These employees may be highly valued, but need to get some habits out of the way or change a behavior in order to continue to grow. One-on-one coaching can help to deal with these situations in a way that might be more difficult to resolve with an immediate manager due to ego or perceived vulnerability.
  4. NEW MANAGERS – A coach provides them a safe place to ask questions and acts as their advocate as they grows into new, demanding responsibilities.
  5. ALL MANAGERS – Move your organization from a culture where managers "tell" their people what to do, to a culture where the focus is on helping the employee find their own answers.

How is coaching different from the leadership and management training programs that we already provide?
A coach is able to take the learnings from those trainings and help your employees integrate the new behaviors in a way that training alone cannot do.

Can you coach a team to change behaviors and start producing at a higher level?
Team coaching is one of the most powerful ways companies are using coaching. We have created a unique coaching program, The Extraordinary Game™, that increases communication, challenges complacency and fosters personal commitment. It is actually a game that the participants create, so the experience is fun, yet challenging.

What qualifies your coaches to provide this type of service?
All the coaches affiliated with the Coaches Resource Group are professionals, with professional coach training and significant corporate experience. Specific qualifications are listed under the "Qualifications" area on this website. The Coaches Resource Group (CRG) has a core group of experienced coaches who together have helped develop and master the successful implementation of the coaching programs that the Pyramid Resource Group offers. They have worked together for anywhere from two to five years and have diversified business backgrounds.

What’s the typical length of time that someone is coached?
Think of coaching as a process. Many people create change for themselves in a short time, but to refine and sustain the changes takes months. Most of our clients are with us for a minimum of six months and many stay with us longer, depending on what they are doing.

How can you develop a relationship, and work at such a personal level over the phone?
We try to meet with all of our clients in person for the initial intake session. Our coaches are trained to listen for over 200 things over the phone and our clients and coaches find that the phone in no way inhibits the development of strong, deep personal communication. The phone allows coaching to "fit in" to the busy lifestyles that our clients lead, regardless of travel, time of day or location.
